Paddle Surf in Rio
Declining river on a surfboard and a paddle.
In combination with IOSUP (International Organization Stand Up Paddle) and KALAHARI kayakers are developing a new form of declining river.
Stand Up Paddle Surfing is a form of surf havaianas that singularity propulsion uses a paddle to surf waves so as to make sea voyages.
In 2009 we met Fernando Labad the toll motorway altea. Carried in the trunk of his car a surfboard and a long blade of strange ways. We were going to kayak down the river Algar, coming down with a vengeance. Then connect and from this meeting came the idea of combining both sports.
Fernando turned out to be an experienced surfer and pioneer of SUP in Europe. As you have crossed exploits the Strait of Gibraltar (Tarifa and Morocco) in 2008 and participated in two editions Molokai2Oahu 2009 and 2010 in Hawaii, in addition to having taught numerous courses for monitors SUP throughout Spain, the Spanish Federation of Surf.
The first contact was in itself Algar, a stretch and barely cortito fast. Still could experience instability that offers this type of vessel, compared to a kayak.
We had news of Supers who are practicing in Rio, but we know surfing waves produced by the tides which enter by the planned course of the mouths of rivers, forming waves like the sea but in fresh water.
Just as there are surfers who surf in waves static rivers but we are not aware that there are people experiencing the rafting. This is our challenge to surf skiing.
The movement of waves in the sea creates a vertical movement of water in the river but it is a body of water that moves in horizontal velocity of water in its own downfall. This law is difficult to get off a surfboard quick, but the contribution of the blade while it performs a printing support, and therefore speed control.
The center of gravity is very high. This creates possible maneuvers that are directly relevant to the balance and support the blade in the water.
The application of techniques of whitewater kayaking in a surfboard gives many possibilities. Previously you have to know how to read a river, knowing a thousand suspected cases that may occur in safety and rescue issues and bring appropriate clothing and a helmet, life jacket, neoprene, etc.
We are in the experimental stage, we still have much to discover.
Outlets or backs are not at all complicated, so if that is clear is that now is not considered a decline in rivers over 2 and 3 degree of difficulty on the scale of whitewater.
Reading the river is better than a kayak, as being situated higher can foresee and anticipate moves.
The discovery of inflatable table is promising, as these are not as rigid and flexibility accompanied by the undulating surface of the rapids.
It is possible changes in the blade and even the placement of a bracket, although this is by check.
Promises big dose of adrenaline, fun and exciting experiences butt in a world still to be discovered. Power down a river walk, is something totally new and Kalahari in the laboratory we invite you to contribute ideas and suggestions.
